MEBANE, N.C. — Motorists traveling on Interstate 40 in Mebane should expect delays, starting Monday, July 16 through July 22 because of upgrade work scheduled to be completed on the freeway.

The work will close various lanes of I-40 between mile markers 150 and 157 for bridge, barrier wall and guardrail installation work, according to the agency.

“This work is taking place as part of the N.C. 119 Mebane Relocation Project, and while crews are working alongside traffic we urge travelers to use extreme caution when traveling through this area,” North Carolina Department of Transportation Division Engineer Mike Mills said in a written statement.

The overall goal of the project is to help reduce congestion in downtown Mebane.
