Remnants of Hurricane Sally continue to dump heavy rain on Georgia and the Carolinas, one day after the storm's devastating landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama. 

early Wednesday morning, Hurricane Sally came ashore packing a savage punch. The Category two storm hit the Alabama Florida Gulf Coast. Some in the storm's path caught off guard. We thought it was going in. The Mississippi Alabama state line went to bed thinking it was barely a hurricane, and then wake up to this. It's just it's just things like it's a nightmare, a nightmare that overwhelmed some coastal areas with water more than 30 inches in some areas. Winds strong enough to push over this semi truck in Mobile, Alabama, and ripped trees out of the ground in Florida. One slammed through the bedroom of Jeff English is 91 year old father, So fortunately, he was down in the other area of of the Dance in Pensacola, Florida A segment of the three mile bridge is gone. Sally was downgraded to a tropical storm by Wednesday afternoon, but was leaving a trail of high water in its wake.

Hey there and thankfully, right now, a bit of a break from the rain, The wind still gusting, though, and you can see that behind me. Take a look. You can see it's still whipping the trees here and moving the lamppost back and forth a bit as you move down toe Mobile Bay. What you'll notice is that the wind is still pushing the water here as well. White caps on the bay here and you can see that mist of the water that's still getting pushed around and these air conditions that are going to continue for a while not only here but across the region. Of course, this storm making landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama, just before sunrise and bringing with it violently wins a a mounting surf that really pushed the storm surge inland quite a bit there. And that storm surge added to the rain is going toe cause, as the National Weather Service has alluded to historic flooding in some of the low lying areas that this storm has affected, right next door in Orange Beach they Saum or of the same with a driving rains there. We've got flooding in several areas and that water is not going to go anyway anytime soon. This storm has made landfall. It's just not really anxious toe move away. That lingering slow progression is going to add to what are already difficult conditions here. Power lines down across the region, we know close toe, half a million without power. And again, this is something the area is gonna have to deal with for the next several days. That's the latest right now here in Mobile. I'm Jay Gray back to you.

Hurricane Sally floods Gulf Coast 

Hurricane Sally made landfall Wednesday near Gulf Shores, Alabama, as a Category 2 storm, pushing a surge of ocean water onto the coast and dumping torrential rain that forecasters said would cause dangerous flooding from the Florida Panhandle to Mississippi and well inland in the days ahead.
