Hurricane Jerry forms in the Atlantic, not expected to impact US

Hurricane Jerry formed in the Atlantic on Thursday and was closing in on the Caribbean Islands.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Jerry had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph and was moving northwest at 16 mph.

It is not likely that Jerry will impact the United States, according to WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner, but it's too soon to know for sure.

Jerry is the 10th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. Most scatter plots turn Jerry to the north, keeping it away from the United States, but the storm is not guaranteed to stay in the Atlantic.
