RIGHT NOW IDA IS A CATEGORY TWO HURRICANE MOVING NORTH NORTHWEST AT NINE MILES AN HOUR. THE SYSTEM WILL CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS IT MOVES THROUGH PORTIONS OF TENNESSEE, KENTUCKY, PASSING BY JUST TO THE NORTH ON WEDNESDAY. Good afternoon. I'm meteorologist, Amy Wilmeth in the WRL severe weather center. It's a nice day to go to the pool. It's going to be pretty hot outside today. 89 for the high in Raleigh and Durham, 90 for the high in Fayetteville. All thanks to that south westerly breeze starting to warm things up and also the humidity is creeping up as well. No storms in the forecast. So that's why it's a good pool day for today. We do have a slow moving cold front that will be approaching North Carolina as we head closer to the holiday weekend. And it will impact us really through the weekend with the potential for some storms. About a 30% chance for storms Thursday and Friday during the daytime hours. But those rain chances will climb as we get to the evening. A 50% chance Saturday and a 40% chance on Sunday today stays dry. We will track that cold front as it approaches on Thursday. We'll have a dry start to the day and really the first half of Thursday looks dry, but once we get to around four o'clock or so, we'll see some storms especially in the western half of the viewing area approaching us and we'll have the chance for some of those storms through the evening. Commute. Some heavy downpours will be possible. We could have some gusty winds and maybe some hail as well by 10 o'clock or so. The showers and storms are along the North Carolina coast on Thursday, Friday morning. It's a dry start. I know a lot of people will be hitting the roads to get to their destination. For Memorial Day weekend, it looks quiet the first half of the day. But as we get into the afternoon and especially the evening hours, we have the potential for some storms. The best chance will probably be over the western half of the state for Thursday. We have a level one risk across most of the area, damaging winds, some heavy rain and hail will be possible and that's going to happen pretty much during the evening commute. So Thursday during the day, about a 30% chance for rain, a 40% chance in the evening and nighttime hours thing on Friday, Saturday, we've got about a 50% chance for storms, a 40% chance Sunday. And then for Memorial Day, it's about a 50% chance for scattered showers and storms. No days. It doesn't look like we're going to have a wash out any of the days for the holiday weekend, but we'll just be dodging those storms on and off. Certainly. Feeling like summertime for the next several days. And even into the holiday weekend, high temperatures will be in the mid to upper eighties, 10 or nine through the holiday weekend. So certainly feeling like summertime.
