Hurricane Fiona is barreling north after pounding Bermuda with heavy rains and winds and knocking out power.

yeah, Bermuda's certainly feeling the wrath of Fiona right now and it is hard to believe that this now, category three hurricane is more than 100 miles off of the coast of this small island. And yet we are getting pummeled by wind and rain and unfortunately that's led to widespread power outages. We know at least a third of the population of Bermuda currently without any electricity, like so many others in Puerto rico, the Dominican Republic Turks and Caicos as a result of this powerful storm as it stands right now, we have witnessed multiple power poles down storm surge being washed ashore in low lying areas and this storm is not over yet. We were told that the peak of Fiona's power when hit Bermuda around five a.m. Local time, it has been hours since then and we're still seeing this powerful winds whip across this area. The extent of the damage not known just yet of But we have been told that in Puerto Rico where tens of thousands have no idea when power will come back on 80% of that island's crops decimated by Fiona and in the Dominican Republic 700,000 people don't have clean drinking water. This is a storm that is not done yet as it churns its way north towards Canada where it could bring historic rains and flooding. We'll send it back to you

Fiona batters Bermuda

The U.S. will not be directly impacted by Fiona, but the N.C. coast could see an increased rip current risk and rough surf late Wednesday night and through the weekend. The Outer Banks could potentially see overwash or beach erosion.

Now, here's what's going on in the tropics. We're still tracking five systems. The two main concern are Fiona and this system here moving through the caribbean that has a burst of convection tonight may indicate some strengthening going on. But let's take a look at Fiona top wind still at 100 and 30. These numbers just came in about two minutes ago. It's moving north northeast at 21. There's upper level wind shear that's helping to eat elongate the storm that will eventually weaken it as it races up toward the north northeast at 21 MPH. WE'RE JUST LOOKING AT SOME VIDEO FROM PUERTO RICO LOOKING AT, YOU KNOW, AS MUCH AS 20 TO 30 INCHES OF RAIN HERE, MORE LIKE 4 TO 8 INCHES HERE, MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE TIMING. IT'S JUST BRUSHING PART OF THE ISLAND AND IT'S MOVING THROUGH FASTER RIGHT NOW. ITS FORWARD MOTION IS NORTHWEST AT 8 MILES PER HOUR. SO IT'S GOING TO MOVE A PASS. SOME OF THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS AND IT HAS WINDS AT 85 MILES PER HOUR. SO THAT'S DOWN JUST A LITTLE BIT FROM OUR LAST ADVISORY THAT WAS AT 08:00AM WHERE IT HAD 90 MILE PER HOUR WINDS. AGAIN, THAT'S NOT SURPRISING BECAUSE IT SAT OVER LAND FOR MUCH OF THE MORNING, BUT NOW IT'S BEGINNING TO PULL NORTHWARD. COULD BE A CATEGORY 2 BY 8 O'CLOCK THIS EVENING. AND THEN IT WILL MOVE PAST THE TURKS AND CAICOS POTENTIALLY BECOMING CATEGORY 3 AND BRUSHING RIGHT PAST BERMUDA, POSSIBLY AS A MAJOR HURRICANE. BE THE FIRST ONE THAT WE'VE SEEN SO FAR THIS SEASON, OF COURSE, IMPACTS FOR THE COAST OF NORTH CAROLINA AND ALL UP AND DOWN THE COAST WILL BE RIP CURRENT DANGER.
