EMERALD ISLE, N.C. — A large, outdoor, Fourth of July concert drew hundreds of revelers to a shoal in Bogue Sound between Emerald Isle and Cape Carteret.

Country singer Cliff Waddell played before a crowd of people on boats and on the sand.

One witness told WRAL News that about 300 boats with about 500 people attended what he says is an annual Independence Day party and concert.

No masks are visible, and the number of people seems to exceed the statewide limit for group gatherings currently in place.

Will Daughtry, a longtime organizer of the event, told WRAL News that, if people can protest in the street, he can have a concert on the water. More than three weeks after the concert, he said, “I haven’t had a single case of COVID-19 reported to me from the concert attendees.”

In mid-June, country artist Darrell Harwood tested positive for COVID-19 just days after a packed performance in Myrtle Beach. Photos and videos posted on Facebook on June 13 showed Harwood posing with fans at Captain Archie's in Myrtle Beach and, before that, at Sycamore Lodge Campground in Richmond County.
