Track & Field: 4A State Championship (Feb. 9, 2019)

The second-annual HighSchoolOT girls indoor track & field all-state team and final top 25 rankings listed below were spearheaded by a Cuthbertson team that led the way in the final rankings and placed six athletes on the all-state team.

Girls Indoor Track & Field All-State Team

The indoor track & field team lists two athletes for each event for first team and two for second team, all based on either N.C. High School Athletic Association championship performance or the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association invitational, which functions as the unofficial championship.

In some events, there were ties across different classifications. In order to determine the points, the tiebreaker was podium placement (a 1A champ got the higher spot if tied with the second-place athlete in 4A).

If the athletes were still tied, they were each given a spot on the all-state team. On this year's team, three high jumpers tied for the last spot on the second team.

Marvin Ridge's Aria Wegh made the all-state team in four different events while Albemarle's Akala Garrett, Cuthbertson's Charlotte Bell, Cardinal Gibbons' Hannah Rae Shaffer, Rolesville's Joslyn Hamilton, Stuart Cramer's Alexis Willis, and Cummings' D'Anna Cotton each made it in two.

Wegh and Garrett each have five all-state selections over the last two years while Shaffer has four. Myers Park's Mary Bonner Dalton, Stuart Cramer's Alexis Willis, and Cuthbertson's Alyssa Preisano and Charlotte Bell each have three.

Cotton, Hamilton, Charlotte Christian's Nina Dominique, Cuthbertson's Stella Kermes, Athens Drive's Summer Laskey, Olympic's T'Sheylah Moore, West Carteret's Tyler Collins and Robbinsville's Zoie Shuler each have two.

Final Statewide Top 25

4A champ Cuthbertson is once again the runaway top team in the final HSOT girls indoor track and field rankings.

Final rankings were calculated by lumping all finals performances from the N.C. High School Athletic Association championships and N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association invitational into one "super meet."

In some events, there were ties across different classifications. In order to determine the points, the tiebreaker was podium placement (a 1A champ got the higher spot if tied with the second-place athlete in 4A). If the athletes were still tied, points were evenly divided among them.

On the girls' side, 3A champ Dudley and 1A/2A champ Swain County were unranked.

In addition to Cuthbertson, Olympic, Parkland, Marvin Ridge, and Cardinal Gibbons were all top-10 for the second year in a row.
