How to set your intentions for the new year

So this year I'm setting intentions. I'm going to do everything in my power to achieve what I feel I deserve within in this year, but if I fall short it won't feel as bad because I know I was intentional with my actions, my love, my hospitality etc.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Well it’s that time of year, when everyone sets new goals and tries to stick with them the whole year. As the girls have gotten older, I’ve started incorporating their wants (goals) into the fold. This year I’m setting intentions in my mind, journal, and calendar, while the girls are drawing theirs’ out.
It’s important that I explain the difference between Intentions versus Goals. Sometimes a goal can be intimidating, especially when it’s unfulfilled. For example, my online clothing store ‘Lynxie Boutique’ I opened last April, in my heart I knew my community, my followers, would support my dream. Safe to say I was wrong and it really affected me on top of taking on homeschooling my 6 and 4 year olds in the middle of the school year, and taking care of a newborn.

So this year I’m setting intentions. I’m going to do everything in my power to achieve what I feel I deserve within in this year, but if I fall short it won’t feel as bad because I know I was intentional with my actions, my love, my hospitality etc.

WRAL contributor Jamei McGee's notebook for her New Year Intentions

When I asked the girls to draw their goals, I chose 4 topics. I gave them topics because I didn’t want to have a second Christmas list and it’s only January. You can take any unlined paper and fold it, creating a perfect little canvas. You could also use magazine cut outs and glue.

The Four Topics:
  • Somewhere you’d like to explore/go
  • Something new you’d like to learn
  • Something/Someone you’d like to give/help
  • Something you’d like to receive

As for me, I want to be intentional about myself, and staying on top of things. I’m the type of person to burnout because I think or I’ve just always had to take the responsibility. Things will fall through the cracks, because I’m so overwhelmed and I end up burning. So I want to be intentional about staying on top of things, remembering to take care of me and all that I deserve.

I hope this motivates you, I know too many women who try to do it all, or think others will make it happen for them. No one is going to do for you what you will do for yourself. Prioritize your needs and wants and be adamant about your stance about your health. I hope you have a great, safe and fulfilling year!
