We are in for another round of winter weather this week and that could mean even more family time at home. We've had a lot of togetherness over the past two years with the pandemic, but at least, if it snows, we can get outside and play in it for a little while!
Here's a list of fun ideas for families during this potential snowy weekend!
Sledding
We used to have a giant hill in the subdivision near our neighborhood. It was a great sledding hill! But if you plan on sledding, make sure to read this list of tips first. Don't sled near trees or obstacles and don't go head first! Sledding can be dangerous and can lead some injuries and no one wants to head to the ER on a snow day during a pandemic.
How to build a snowman
Do you want to build a snowman? I'm going to drive my son crazy singing that all day if it does snow. Anyway, if you want to build the best snowman, check out these tips from a champion sculptor. You can also take it one step further by creating an entire snow family! Hallmark has some great ideas for how to build a snowman with personality!
Make warm some drinks
Warm up with these three recipes for tasty drinks, including homemade hot chocolate. The Umstead also shared with us their recipes for White, Milk and Dark hot chocolate drinks.
And if you want to stay chilly, try this recipe for Snowcream! We also have a list of viewer suggested recipes for Snowcream, but note some of those contain raw eggs. You can even try to make some snow candy.
More ideas for family fun
- Pull out all the board games from the closet and have a tournament.
- Teach your kids how to play different card games or let them teach you their favorite game like Pokemon.
- Teach your children some "life skills" like cooking, how to do the laundry and even cleaning
- Get out the art supplies and create works of art for the refrigerator or the walls. Make sure paint and markers are washable if your children like to get messy!
- Have a dance party. Just put on Spotify or ask Google or Alexa to play Kidz Bop.
- Find ways to help families who are struggling by looking at this list of local nonprofits
- Exercise. My kids love to get on the floor and do some yoga or stretching with me. My oldest loves to do the Peloton classes with me. It's great to have a workout buddy!
- Have a movie or TV marathon! We love to watch TV and sometimes it is great to introduce your kids to the shows you grew up watching like "Full House" and "Fresh Prince." It's also a chance to watch a favorite children's movie like "Moana," "Frozen" or "Despicable Me."
