Steamy days, chance for storms through the weekend

After a Friday where the Triangle felt like it hit 100 degrees, lower high temperatures are in the offing for the next week, although there is no relief from the heat, humidity and daily chance for thunderstorms.

The chance for storms Friday night, as high school football season kicks off, is only about 25 percent, according to WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel.

"The rain, if we see it, will stay more to the south and east of Raleigh tonight," Fishel said.

Precipitation chances increase for Saturday, with showers and thunderstorms developing late in the afternoon and into the evening hours.

Sunday should be a bit less humid but with the chance for rain anytime anywhere, Fishel said.

7-Day Forecast

The seven-day forecast promises little change. High temperatures each day will be in the upp 80s, overnight lows will be in the 70s and a thunderstorm could happen at any time.

It's a typical late-summer pattern for the Triangle.

"I pretty much have a standard response until about the first of October," Fishel said with a laugh.
