The 2011 season for the Raleigh Trolley starts this Saturday and runs every Saturday through December.
The hour-long trolley ride begins at Mordecai Historic Park, a great place to visit on its own. It weaves through downtown Raleigh as a guide shares all kinds of really interesting information about the city. You can get off and on at a couple of the stops (though seating is not guaranteed).
I took my mom and then five-year-old daughter on the ride last year. I knew my mom would enjoy it. I wasn't so sure about my daughter. But she considered it all a big adventure and even took along a notebook so she could take notes (we'd been reading a lot of the Magic Tree House series and one of the characters carries a notebook with him).
I definitely would recommend the tour for grade schoolers and up.
Tours depart from Mordecai every Saturday at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $4 for youth (7-17) and children (6 and under) are free. The trolley is enclosed and air conditioned. It runs rain or shine.
Call 919.857.4364 or visit Mordecai's website for updated trolley information and schedules.
