After an extensive investigation in the Semar Barbour case, the Morrisville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has determined that the evidence indicates the murder of Mr. Barbour occurred in another jurisdiction and his body was then left in the Town of Morrisville.

The case will be referred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. Until that time no information will be released regarding the other jurisdiction.

This is an active investigation, and no other information is currently available.

On Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at 1:49 p.m., Morrisville police officers responded to a person in a vehicle who appeared to be sleeping in the back seat of the vehicle in the 300 block of Walnut Woods Drive. The vehicle was a burgundy 2011 Chrysler 200 with a North Carolina license plate.

The initial responding officers, as well as EMS and fire personnel, found the individual to be deceased. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle was registered to a Semar Barbour, 19, of Durham, who was reported missing to the Durham Police Department on October 23, 2023. The male victim inside of the vehicle was later identified as Mr. Barbour.

Mr. Barbour sustained multiple apparent gunshot wounds to his body. The vehicle appears to have been parked at this location since at least the morning of October 24. Mr. Barbour was last known to be in Durham on the afternoon of October 23.

This is an active investigation, and no other information is available currently.
