Raleigh Little Theatre's spring shows have been postponed or canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it's launched a challenge that the group hopes will get all of our creative juices flowing.

This month, the community theater group sent a call out for submissions to its first Homemade Play Festival, which runs through May 31 and is open to all ages, including families.

"During this challenging time when we cannot gather to create theatre together in the same space, we want to engage and share the creativity all over our community," according to the community theater's website. "In the RLT Homemade Play Festival, we challenge you and the people you live with to create a short original play, video record it and send it to us to share on our Facebook page this month."

RLT is challenging all of us to create and film a short play of five minutes or less that includes a new or imagined invention; the line, 'Hey, come back here with that!;" and another family member or pet (unless you live alone). Content should be appropriate for all ages.

RLT has offered up some tips and tricks on how to make your homemade play. On its YouTube channel, you'll find quick videos about how to add sound to your homemade play, how to choose a title, how to use props and how to create conflict, among others.

Videos are due by May 31. More information is on Raleigh Little Theatre's website.
