Homeless man struck, killed by train in Selma

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Jonathan Snyder. Snyder was homeless and from the Selma area. There is a homeless camp nearby but it's unknown if Snyder had been staying there.

SELMA, N.C. — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a CSX train Wednesday morning near the Smithfield-Selma city limits.

The collision was reported just before 1:00 a.m. near the Highway 70 Flyover Bridge and just inside the town of Selma.

The victim was identified as 41-year-old Jonathan Snyder. Snyder was homeless and from the Selma area. There is a homeless camp nearby but it’s unknown if Snyder had been staying there.

Snyder was lying next to the track when he was struck by the southbound train. He was killed instantly. The collision was ruled accidental.
