Meteorologist Anthony Baglione here with a forecast that's filled with sunshine as we go through the rest of today. 52 degrees is what we're looking for for high temperatures. So about where we should be for this time of the year after our cold start and then temps this evening get even colder there in the upper 30s. So if you're headed out this evening, maybe going to the Canes game, you just are probably going to want to bundle up. But the day itself looking pretty good. We go through the weekend, more cloud cover. To fill in 55 tomorrow, 49 on Sunday. Temperatures not too much of a factor for us, but rain chances are going to be the big story both days. 70% for us on Saturday, mainly during the morning, but can't totally rule it out through the afternoon, and then 60% there on Sunday. That may be a little bit generous looking at some of the latest models, but enough where I just want to make you aware that that potential is there. Here's Futurecast that we start you off early Saturday morning. Some of that rain pushing in. And again, I think the bulk of this would be during the first half of the day. We go through the afternoon, you can kind of see it, a lot of it pushes to our east. We may still have some cloud cover though with us. So if you have plans on Saturday, if you can steer them toward the afternoon, that's gonna be a better time frame for that. 9 o'clock or so, still looking at some clouds, we go through Sunday, not quite the extent to what we were seeing on Futurecast for our Saturday. But still some rain chances showing up there. Maybe a snowflake or two for our far northern counties into Sunday night. Look at temperatures next week, 32 by the time we get to Monday, 30 on Tuesday. Those are afternoon high temperatures, not morning lows. That's all we're going to go for. The low temperatures in the mornings are going to be in the teens, so some very frigid air headed this way. 52 tomorrow, 55 on Saturday. We have those rain chances through the weekend, still tracking the potential for a wintry type system getting close to us into Tuesday, Wednesday. Models are all over the place. They are going back and forth. So what I would say at this point is just keep checking back. We're going to really fine tune this and get a better handle on it as we go through the weekend and into early next week.

Three people were shot at the Coquette restaurant at North Hills on Friday, according to Raleigh police. One man was killed, and two others were injured.



I am here to provide an update on what has occurred here at the 4300 block of Circle at North Hills Street. Certainly, as the lieutenant stated, this is a troubling event. Anytime we have any kind of shootings or incidents like this, our hearts go out to the victims and those that are involved. This is the information that we have right now. The scene is contained and there is no threat to the community. This is not a random incident. The male, what we know is that a male subject entered into a business here at North Hills and he shot another individual. That person is deceased. We can confirm that at this time. The suspect then in return turned the weapon on himself and he fired a shot. He remains in critical condition at this time. There was another person who we believe to be somebody that was just standing by that was struck, and that individual has non life threatening injuries, and we are prayerful that he will be OK. This appears to be a dispute between parties. We do not know at this time whether they know each other. We believe that possibly, but we do not know that for a fact. We have conducted a full search of the area of area businesses to ensure that they are safe. There are no other victims or suspects that we believe we are looking for at this time. With me today are all of our partners that have been instrumental in helping us to get our community safe and making sure that our community is safe. I certainly always want to make sure that we thank them. I thank the Raleigh Police Department for being here with us and providing resources also to the State Highway Patrol, Wake County Sheriff's Office, State Capitol police, emergency management, Wake EMS, and also Kane Security. I also want to thank Wake County schools. We know that some of the schools were concerned. They were in lockdown, but they are all now on green code green. I would like to tell the public that they can expect that the roads in this area are going to be shut down for a little while longer. Please bear with us with that as we continue the investigation. As we get additional information as we always do because we want to make sure we're good partners, we will update you and give you that information. That is what we have at this time. I'll take a few questions. Yes, it did occur at the business right at the corner here at the Coquette business, and we have been in contact with those business owners. They have been very cooperative with us in the investigation, and we are thankful for that. I'm sorry, one more time. I don't have that information at this time. Chief, were all of the shots fired inside this business, or were there shots that were fired outside of the business as well? From what we can ascertain at this time, the shots were fired inside the building. And then how far did the suspect get from the scene of the shooting we're still working through that. OK, and we see that this scene is extremely large. Can you tell folks why? So much crime tape whenever everything was contained in that one. Yeah, absolutely. Anytime you have any kind of shooting incident, we're going to make sure that our crime scene and our perimeter is wide. That is just our protocol and doing business like that. We are in the process now that we have been able to isolate some things to reduce the crime scene. So I don't have that information with me just at this moment we were trying to get the facts of the case and trying to put out something to you OK. All right. Yeah. Yeah. So as I've stated that this was not a random incident. This is not something that happens on a daily basis in North Hills, and we're very thankful for that. This is a very safe community and we want to assure the public that everything is contained as far as we can do at this point. Certainly we're going to continue to investigate this. If anything further comes up, we will make sure that we pass that information on on all our social media platforms as well as our city of Raleigh website so that you are informed and you are updated on the information. Are all of the um are suspect and victims all employees so we don't know that yet. Yeah um we don't know that yet. OK, that's fair. Thank you. Fingers crossed, right. about Jason. U.S. Attorney Michael Easley Jr., along with Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Robert Dewitt held a press conference on Thursday to discuss the arrest of a Durham man accused of supporting ISIS.

There are some. such a class on supervisor. Right this guy. Great OK. For I. you can that's. Yeah. And then so the guy had put all the braces. One guy like people come up in the movie like a family. Yeah. I crazy Um You to. this guy is, he says. Oh. for God's. they investigate my name uh yeah yeah yeah. I question the people not to, but you bring it brings to one and you understand that so you're not. That's just I think that you that you can choose when I tell people, especially those years and every time American kids of drugs. I have people that tell me I got a good as it was. Yeah. For You should. Yes we have. Yeah. You ever been there? No, awesome. Yeah. Yeah right. Just like. She I. Yeah, that's right. Mhm. OK Thank you all for being here today. I'm United States Attorney Michael Easley for the Eastern District of North Carolina. I'm joined today by Special Agent in Charge Bob Dewitt with the FBI, who leads the FBI's efforts, including the efforts of the Joint Terrorism Task Force here in North Carolina. Also with us today are some of our most vital partners, those who devote their resources to the cause of keeping America safe, especially in the fight against terrorism, foreign and domestic. With us areAI Deputy Chief Paul Minella, Sheriff Willie Road, FBI Assistant Director Steven Holmes, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Colonel Freddie Johnson, and Raleigh Chief of Police Estella Patterson. We're here today to discuss the arrest and the unsealing of a criminal complaint and charges against Alexander Justin White for attempting to provide material support for ISIS, a foreign terrorist organization, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in federal prison. ISIS is a brutal terrorist organization that promotes a fringe ideology not based on true Islam but based on violence and oppression. At the height of ISIS's powers, it controlled an area in Iraq and Syria nearly as large as North Carolina. That caliphate has waned in prominence and essentially crumbled with respect to its geographic holdings. But despite the fact that its geographic holdings crumble, its online presence remained, and its ability to mobilize people towards violence remains a persistent threat and one upon which we have to be monumentally vigilant every day. This team is doing that alongside so many other efforts to keep America safe. America has seen a troubling uptick in ISIS threats over the last year that have risen to prominent public discourse in Oklahoma, Arizona, Texas, Idaho, and even more recently and perhaps more prominently in New Orleans, the attack that occurred. Our remarks. Today we'll focus on the North Carolina matter and they'll be limited to what's available in the public record. We always will be circumspect in what we can and will say at the stage of ongoing litigation. We'll be focused on what's in the public record and the general scope of the investigation. There are always legal, practical, and ethical reasons that we have to be circumspected what we say we will not jeopardize any ongoing litigation or investigation that may occur, and that's why we'll always be careful in that regard. I want to recognize the work of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. It is a multi-agency effort under the umbrella of the FBI, but its work is only possible because agencies devote their resources to help it be a success. This case is one example of that success story that comes out of multi-agency collaboration, and every agency that contributed to this case is featured here in the room. Raleigh Police Department, Kerry Police Department, Durham Police Department is not present, but also as a contributor to the Joint Terrorism Task Force. The Wake County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, and our highway patrol have all contributed bodies and resources and time and energy, not just to work on this case, but to assess every threat that pops up and to run those down whether they result in a prosecution or not. That JTTF consists of highly trained investigators, analysts, intelligence specialists, and even our prosecutors that sit shoulder to shoulder with these men and women to do legal process as is necessary to build evidence and vet cases on the front end. But this case and many of our other investigations involve international collaborations as well, particularly when we're talking about a global enterprise like ISIS. We collaborated in this case with the Moroccan authorities. The Moroccan General Directorate of Territorial surveillance provided insight and assistance as we built our case, and we appreciate those international relationships as well. If the threat is international, so too will be our investigative efforts. I want to talk about the charges and the complaint only insofar as they're available in the public record and our special agent in charge with the FBI, Bob Dewitt will also have comments as well. The complaint alleges that Mr. White made or attempted to make some financial transactions in support of ISIS camps. The complaint alleges that he was active online, on social media, sharing, viewing, and participating in ISIS propaganda and rhetoric on social media, sharing propaganda videos and messages and posts from organizations that raise money and fundraise for ISIS camps in Syria, as well as posts that involve talking of ISIS supported jihad around the world. The complaint alleges that White communicated with multiple individuals about joining ISIS. His intention to be a mujadeed in Shalah, which is an Arabic term meaning to be someone who commits violent jihad or attacks against non-Muslims. When White was asked if he was OK killing members of the military or US citizens, the complaint alleges that he stated, if it was a family member, I would still fight back with them. White also discussed his experience with firearms, sent pictures of firearms, noted that he could buy them, and the complaint alleges that he did procure firearms to include AR-15, a Glock 19, and even an AK-47. White also allegedly discussed and participated in procuring equipment that would be necessary for his overseas travel in support of ISIS, as is alleged in the complaint that he acquired a military combat medical kit as well. military style chest rigs to hold clips to hold ammunition for AK-47 magazines. Finally, the complaint alleges that White attempted to travel to Syria to support ISIS in its mission and through the work of these agencies, he was intercepted and arrested as he boarded the jet bridge at RDU International Airport last month. The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force put this threat to a stop. They did it through a tremendous amount of work, a massive commitment of resources and coordination like you wouldn't believe. Every agency I've referenced has a mission to keep this nation, this state, and this community safe, and that will always involve confronting terrorist threats when they may arise from near or from far. I also have a message from the public for the public. I want the public to know that you may be the first to see someone mobilizing towards violence, your son, your brother, your friend or your neighbor. You may see it before we do. And we ask you, please, if you see someone sliding into a dangerous ideology, if you see someone mobilizing towards violence, speak up now. We would much rather resolve that with an opportunity to offboard someone or off-ramp them from a dangerous ideology or even with the prosecution before. Lives are lost. We ask you please to speak up. You are the very best in the first line to let us know when there is a danger in our community, and we will do our level best to keep America safe, whatever the cost, whatever the agency resources are required, whatever the time commitment, because that's what our people expect of us in this nation. And I can assure you that the people of North Carolina are in good hands with the members of the team that are present here today. I want to thank the prosecutors on this case, Gabe Diaz and Jason Kelhoffer, who worked very hard, uh, and embedded themselves alongside law enforcement to see the job done. Thank you. With that, I'd like to recognize our special agent in charge at FBI, Bob Dewitt, to share some remarks. Thank you, US Attorney easily. My name is Bob Wood. I am the special agent in charge for the FBI in North Carolina. There's a quote at FBI headquarters that reads, The most effective weapon against crime is cooperation, and I am grateful to be here today and represent everybody who is with me with the interagency. Detectives, officers, and agents from these agencies commit their time and their resources to fulfill the FBI's mission of upholding the Constitution and keeping the American people safe. During the 7 month investigation and arrest of Alexander Justin White, the Joint Terrorism Task Force was instrumental in ensuring this case was handled with precision, attention to detail, and shared commitment to justice and public safety. You've heard US Attorney easily explain how the complaint alleges that White knowingly and intentionally attempted to provide material support and resources to the terrorist organization ISIS. White allegedly planned to leave his family, his friends, his home, North Carolina, and ultimately his country and fly to Morocco to serve shoulder to shoulder with the terrorist organization ISIS. Thankfully the FBI and our partners were able to intercept him, arrest him, and shut those plans down. Beginning in May 2024, Joint Terrorism Task Force investigators identified posts on White's social media account where he allegedly made or attempted to make several financial transactions in support of terrorist training camps which are believed to funnel money to ISIS and other terrorist supporters. White discussed sending money to 7 different social media accounts, and at least 5 of those users indicated that they were at terrorist training camps. The complaint alleges that in other social media messages, White was adamant about his desire to join ISIS fighters. He trained at a gun range and he bought specific gear for the mission to include a tactical medical kit and even military style boots, which he wore here in North Carolina to break in before his trip to fight with ISIS. The complaint alleges that White said he was willing to fight US military members as well as harm US citizens in furtherance of the group's radical ideology towards violence. The complaint alleges that White was worried about getting caught and at one point indicated concern about being intercepted at the airport, which is exactly what happened. On December 4th, White was arrested at the Raleigh Durham International Airport by our FBI JTTF based out of here in Raleigh. While he was en route to Morocco, but our work did not end there. We had to be certain that he did not have co-conspirators also planning to join ISIS, and that took weeks of lawfully and legally exploiting his devices, his social media accounts, conducting countless interviews and other investigative measures to get us to where we are here today to be sure there were no other actionable threats linked to white or those he was associated with. Because of the robust FBI investigation, White was arrested before he could travel and join the terrorist group, and I cannot overstate. Enough that ISIS continues to pose a threat to all US citizens and all US interests, both domestically and abroad, largely through the group's ability to reach and radicalize people using the internet. Today's terrorism threat actors move at the speed of social media, and we see radicalization happening online now more than ever. Unfortunately, and thanks to the long and countless days, hours, and months of hard work by the FBI's li-based Joint Terrorism Task Force. Mr. White was literally stopped in his tracks. JTTFs across the country leveraged the resources, the skills, and authorities of our federal, state, and local partners. To identify and combat terrorism threats 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and in many ways our JTTFs are our nation's frontline defense against terrorists. Loan actors present a particular challenge to law enforcement intelligence agencies because they are difficult to identify, they're difficult to investigate, and they are difficult to disrupt, especially when the radicalization and communication with other like-minded individuals happens online or over encrypted apps. The FBI continues to work tirelessly to combat the threat of terrorism for the American people every single day. But our partnerships are not just limited to other law enforcement partners. We rely on the communities we serve, and we encourage the public to contact law enforcement when they see or hear something that doesn't look right. The threats we face, I can assure you are bigger than any one law enforcement or intelligence agency requiring all of us, all of us up here and all of us and all of you hearing this message. To work together to keep our community safe. Thank you. We can try to answer a few questions, although, uh, consistent with my, uh, initial remarks we have to be a little circumspective what we can share, uh, but we'll we'll do our best. Yeah, according to the criminal complaint, the FBI undercover employee was speaking with him online as early as October. Why wait? Nearly 22 months after this to arrest him. Every case takes a long time to build the evidence you need to build the case, and it's always a balance. We want to make first and foremost have every degree of certainty that the American people and people in North Carolina are never in danger. In this case they never work because of the resources we have and the bandwidth that local law enforcement. Provide we have the ability in the right case to put someone under functionally 24 hour surveillance and because of that, we can then take the time in certain cases to build the kind of case that we have a lot of confidence in and to fully exploit and sometimes you have to allow a bit of time to ensure. That you don't move so quickly that you miss an opportunity to find a co-conspirator or a network or a broader organization that we need to be aware of and so we're making those judgment calls every day on how we balance the ability to take swift action, to take action that's going to keep this state and this community safe, while also making a case that's airtight and exploits every bit of intelligence that we can. Uh, and the professionals in this room are always having a lot of discussions and assessing and making certain we've got the resources we need to, uh, to do what we have to do to build a strong case and not put our community at risk. Yeah, what if you missed your opportunity at the airport? We don't worry about missing the opportunity. Uh, this is not an opportunity we're going to miss. Are you able to share how you first became aware of the social media posting question? Um, well, I'll tell you generally that we have information sources, uh, both in the community and through uh the bureau's network, but also internationally as well. And, uh, in this case, like many other cases that have international implications, our international partners can provide many insights that lead us to the information that uh a local community member may not have alerted us. And so in this context, this is one where we might be grateful for international partners, uh, always being live with us and uh sharing, communicating and being a team, um, and as these cases go, and lone actor is hard to find and the threat is very diffuse and that means that our net has to be wide and our relationships have to be deep and we counted on that in this case. Just to be clear, it sounds it sounds like the first inkling that something was happening came from actually came from overseas, not, not within here you guys obviously jumped on it's right. And you do believe at this time that he was a lone actor in this case. Has he cooperated to this juncture? Has he been able to shed light on any information about why he engaged in this type of behavior? I will speak to that about this particular individual, why folks engage in this behavior more broadly. I, I can't say, but um it it is troubling how quickly folks can mobilize towards violence and slide into very dangerous ideologies online and uh particularly when those communities are seeking people and are trying actively to loop them in. Uh, and when we have an epidemic of loneliness and isolation in this country, it creates room and creates space uh for very dangerous ideologies and groups to go to where the lost are and to mobilize lost people, uh, to do very dangerous things. What's next? When is he in court? February 11th will be a hearing at which he will have the opportunity to plead guilty, and there will be a decision that he makes at that hearing, and that will be the next juncture. I was just gonna ask any, um, when you guys started looking into him and his background, was did anything in his, his family and his history kind of tell you guys that he had something had gone south, he had some kind of incident or or he had some kind of I I'm just like that that that's playing into this. Nothing I can point to at this time. Alright. Thank you all. OK. You can you get with the document. Oh.
