Hello everyone. I'm meteorologist Mike Mays in the WRL severe weather center weather forecast update for this Monday night. Cooler weather is on the way you probably felt this evening. It was cooler and it will be colder by daybreak. A heavier jacket will be in order by 8 a.m. We expect sunshine 34 at that point and it will likely be chilly all day. In fact, it will be cooler than what we had today. At least that's the expectation. So at the bus stop in the morning, we'll have mostly sunny skies. 32 is the low 34 at eight by 10 a.m. partly cloudy about 42. And notice on the by our forecast tomorrow, how it clouds up during the day. We're tracking a system that's up in the upper Midwest that dives down to the south and east will bring an increase in cloud cover. We go from 59 today to 53 for the high tomorrow. So again, cooler, more with more clouds and the day tomorrow will not be a repeat of today for two reasons. We'll have more cloud cover and of course, it will be cooler, but I think by Thursday we'll have a repeat of what we saw across the area today and there's the system we're watching in the upper Midwest, it's quick moving, diving to the south and east and these types of systems don't have a lot of moisture. And I tell you what if we had a lot of cold air to work with. This would be a scenario that we could see a little bit of frozen precipitation, but it's not going to be cold enough. So we're just expecting rain out of this. So tomorrow it's dry. 53 in Raleigh 56 Fayetteville, 41 at Boone, 54 at Wilmington for the day. Tues, I should say Wednesday. Uh We see rain in the morning. It will be a chilly rain 48 for the high later in the day. And Raleigh 50 in Fayetteville moon will likely see some snow and the higher elevations will as well down east toward the coast. 55 of Wilmington, 54 at Morehead City. And these are the rainfall totals very light, less than about 2/10 of an inch. So it's not going to be the repeat of the almost half inch we saw at RDU over the weekend and then for the day on Thursday, we expect full sunshine. 59 Raleigh 61 Fayetteville, everybody should be in the sixties on Friday. Then we turn cooler this weekend and it will remain dry as you'll see in the seven day forecast coming up anywhere from 30 at Roxboro, 32 at Rocky Mount in Southern Pines, 34 in Clinton. And then tomorrow, more clouds around than what we saw today. 50 in Roxboro, 49 at South Hill, 57 in Fayetteville. And your seven day forecast temperatures creep back up Thursday and Friday, Friday. We have Groundhog Day, sir, Walter Wally. When he comes out of his den around lunchtime should see the sunshine. That's the forecast. And if he sees his shadow, that means six more weeks of winter and looks like that should be the case because what we see in the long range models has this cooler than normal through at least mid March from the end of February through mid March and then Saturday and Sunday look dry. So we're going to have a dry weekend and a pretty wet as well and it will be cool. That's our forecast update for this Monday night. It's the beginning of the work week. Family and friends of two women killed in Apex in January are gathering to honor their lives. The man accused of shooting the two women was charged with both of their murders.

Said, you all come in, you put some tape up, you do a quick investigation, you take the take down and then you run and you go on about your day and you all never think about us again. He said, but when we see a police officer get killed, he said, you all will move heaven and earth to provide support and to do everything in your power to make sure that justice is done. Uh And, and that, you know, the, the police department or the police officers that were impacted by, that have the support that they need. And I had never, I had never heard anybody explain that to me before. Um, but sitting there in that session, um he made some, some very valid points and I understood where he was coming from and, and it's something that I've carried with me throughout, uh since that conversation to make sure that the police department and any police department that I, I may lead in a moment of tragedy and a moment of crisis in our community that the people impacted by, that know and understand that it is, it is our tragedy and we are all impacted by it. And so for the family and for the loved ones, uh I hope we have done you all honor uh and, and justice and how we have tried to support you all uh through this enormous tragedy. I wanna thank, you know, everybody for coming out to support this event. Um I especially want to thank the people that showed up that day. Uh It wasn't just Apex Police officers uh that showed up uh to answer the call that day. Uh I wanna thank the Apex Fire Department uh for their staff. Uh Wake County Ems um Wake County Sheriff's Office, some of their deputies even responded out there to, to help and assistance that day. And, and I also want to thank our partners in the media um when, when we had our press conference to talk about this and when we were releasing the 911 calls, um we made a request of you all and, and I want to stand up and publicly say that I, I thank you for honoring that, that request. Um You know, sometimes the, the police and the media can, can have a tough relationship. Um But I, I wanted to say publicly that I really appreciate uh the, the dignity and the just the compassion that you all showed in display uh in honoring the, the wishes. Uh Lastly, I want to thank the men and women of the Apex Police Department. Uh It is an extreme honor of mine to, to lead this organization and work alongside you. And I, I could be more proud to stand up here as your chief um for the courage that, that, that you all display on a daily basis, not just that day, um but on a daily basis, but in particular, that day, you know, it's, it's interesting. So that day was, was MLK holiday uh when this, this tragedy happened and we had had a series of um community events that weekend leading up to the holiday. And one, we had a um a panel discussion um and a presentation. And so we were talking about, you know, police community relations and, and where the conversation went. Uh One thing that came up in that conversation was, you know, for, for police officers, the, the Guardian versus the warrior. So that was a conversation that I had just had before this tragedy happened. And just this past Friday, I was speaking with a, a university class. And one of the questions that I gotta ask from one of the students was that very question chief? Where do you stand on the Guardian versus the Warrior? And over the last, you know, several years that has been a, a great topic of discussion. It's been a question that I received uh an enormous amount of times. Um And whenever I get that question, uh my answer to that question is what I look for in a police officer, any police officer is somebody who has a guardian heart and a guardian mind, but somebody who has warrior courage and a warrior skill set, because there's nothing worse for any community that at the end of time of me, when you need warriors and you find out in that moment that you don't have warriors. Uh And so I'm proud to stand up here before you to say that we're all blessed that day that we had warriors answering that call because this tragedy as tragic as it is could have impacted a lot more families if they wouldn't have been able to step up and do what they did. And so I greatly appreciate you all for, for what you did next up. I would like to call Doug Stride to offer some remarks on behalf of the Taylor family. Thank you, Chief Armstrong. I am one of the pastors of Hope community Church here at the Apex Campus of Hope. Nancy was a member of our church and also the mother of one of our staff members. So this hit close to home and I want to publicly thank the police department Chief Armstrong and our mayor. I think already we have seen the beautiful humanity and vulnerability of both of these men who helped lead our community. And I'm personally grateful for that. I wanted to share some thoughts written by the family, by Nancy's family. We are still in disbelief about the tragic and sudden passing of our mother and grandmother, Nancy Taylor. We will be celebrating her, her life in the days to come. But tonight we mourn alongside everyone here as members of the town of Apex are still in shock by the events that happened on January 15th. We want to thank the brave first responders who arrived almost immediately to try to save Nancy and disrupt the unbelievable and tragic situation they were presented with. We are grateful to live in a town like Apex where events like this bring us closer together to support each other in tragic times like this. We are so grateful for all the support we have received from our neighbors, friends and the community around us. These past two weeks. As we have mourned Nancy's life, many people have asked, who was your mom, who was your grandma? Nancy Taylor? She moved here three years ago to be closer to her two grandsons. She attended every baseball game they played in and was involved in their lives here. She always wanted to be the grandmother who was there and present and she loved being there and not only cheering for her boys but for their teammates as well. The most important thing to her besides her family was her faith and her relationship with Jesus Christ. She mentioned that one of her favorite things to do was to pray and our faith is probably the only thing carrying us through this horrible time. We have heard many stories from her neighbors and friends that would see her walking, her beloved dog, Danny. And during those walks, she was often praying and singing worship songs as she enjoyed walking close to downtown Apex. She loved getting to know her neighbors and was always offering a lending hand when help was needed. And even the Children in her neighborhood lovingly referred to her as grandma. But tonight, we are just grieving our mother and grandmother, but her good friend and neighbor Gabrielle, we are thankful she had neighbors like Gabby who cared for her when she was sick or needed a listening ear. We need more people talking to their neighbors and caring about what's going on outside the walls of their own homes. And as I close as a pastor of Oak community church, we want you to know that we are here, Pastor Kevin Apex Baptist and our faith community is here to serve all of our community during this time of need. I and I'm sure some of us will be hanging out even after this time if you want someone to talk to you or if you would like to at any point, reach out to our church and allow us to help with the healing process of this great tragedy. Thank you. Next, we will have Laura Frankie to provide remarks on behalf of the Raymond family, on behalf of the Raymond family and all who love Gabrielle. We want to thank the town of Apex Mayor Gilbert, the first responders and the Apex Police Department for their care and compassion during this time and for guiding us through this nightmare with empathy and understanding in the wake of a tragedy, people are often described as having been able to light up a room that was not Gabrielle. Gabrielle was never looking for attention or praise despite her frequent acts of selflessness, thoughtfulness, kindness, creativity, and love. So when I say that she did not light up her room, what I mean is that she could light up your heart, your life, her smile and laugh were infectious. Her love of her family and friends was evident in her day to day life and even more exemplified during the holiday, birthday vacation or really any special occasion. It was clear that Gabriel loved her life, loved her family, friends and work, loved to give to others and in return was so very loved. It is hard to describe this event as a loss. It was a shock, a crime, a life cut short by an intentional act of unnecessary violence. We did not lose her. She was stolen from us having to grieve a death that did not have to be has been the hardest part of all while our lives cannot possibly continue in the same way they did before we can carry Gabrielle's spirit and legacy with us. We can continue these acts of kindness, big or small we can do for others without the expectation of praise we can give from the heart, we can focus less on lighting up an entire room and more on lighting up the lives and hearts of those who love tonight. Excuse me tonight, we will each light a candle to not only honor the lives of Nancy and Gabrielle, but to come together and mourn their loss in the midst of grief. The candle light can serve as a beacon of hope, hope for solace in the moments of despair. Hope for days of healing. Still to come hope that the flame serves as a reminder. Even in our darkest moments, there's always a glimmer of light. Tonight, we ask that you allow the promise of hope to take root and know that as you walk down this unfamiliar road, you are surrounded by love and by grace and you are not alone. At this time. I asked Mayor Gilbert and Chief Armstrong to step forward and light the family scandals. I got a dark, ok. At this time to honor Nancy and Gabrielle. I would like for everyone to join us in a moment of silence. Thank you. That's been mentioned tonight several times. It's important that it's crucial that we remain unified in this community. I'm sure that's what Nancy and Gabby would have wanted. And let's be sure that how they illuminated the lives of their families in this community forever burns downtown. It remains a little I also want to share with you if you are in need of any community resources, please reach out to our police department and they can assist you with that. And of course mentioned, our faith partners are here as well. Also like to add that our War Tower is illuminating purple and honor of Nancy and Gabby as well. I've also been asked by cap and whistle to share with you. There are books for you to sign condolences uh to share with the family. So please come up after we finish the night. And also um you can dispose of your candles in the bucket some r in the courtyard. So thanks everyone for coming out. Continue to live with family prayers and family. Know that we love you. I'd like to thank the town of Apex near Gober t are strong and this involved decrease space thst to grieve and our Debbie and Nancy in the midst of if there are times and troubles, what's encouraging? Again, Father God, we come before you to remember and honor the lives of Nancy Taylor and Go Raymond. We thank you for the warmth of their presence and the light they brought into the lives of their families and friends. As we hold their memories in our hearts, we seek your comfort in the midst of grief. May the flames before us symbolize the enduring love we shared with Nancy and Gabriel and our collective sorrow, grant us the strength to support one another and find solace in the cherished moments we had guide us as we navigate this difficult journey of Los made the memories of Nancy and Gabriel inspire us to live with greater kindness, compassion and love within our community. We pray for strength, courage and peace for all who are affected. We are grateful for the first responders, our police department and the town for their response to this tragedy. This is the peak of good living and we pray for your protection over the town of God in the midst of, of hurt. You are good. You're good because we have hope of your love for us and the sacrifice of your son Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins. So that one day we too may be reunited with you for all of eternity.
