HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. — Hours after losing his job as a Holly Springs police officer, Jimmy Earl Price Jr. was charged Tuesday night with driving while impaired.

Price, 47, of 187 Hunters Way in Angier, was arrested by one of his former colleagues at about 10:20 p.m. following a crash on N.C. Highway 55. According to the citation, his Ford pickup drifted into a turn lane at Vinewood Place and rear-ended two vehicles, injuring at least one person.

Officers noted a strong odor of alcohol on him and bloodshot, glassy eyes. He refused a field sobriety test and had to be taken to a nearby hospital to have blood drawn to measure his blood-alcohol content.

Holly Springs spokesman Mark Andrews said Price's last day as a police officer was Tuesday. He didn't say how long he had worked with the Holly Springs Police Department.
