FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — A family of athletes from Holly Springs is coming home $20,000 richer --- because they got to flex their talents and won on national television Monday.

The Auer family took the top prize on ‘American Ninja Warrior” -a sports entertainment show where contestants complete a series of intense obstacles courses.

It’s considered the biggest stage for "ninjas" to compete on.

American Ninja Warrior on NBC.

Energy, hard work, and determination is how the Auer family from Holly Springs made it there.

Caleb Auer tried the sport out at a training facility owned by a friend.

"I had always seen the sport on tv and I thought it was super cool," said Caleb.

After competing in the local leagues, he and his brother Josh Auer decided it was time to open a facility of their own.

And train for the big stage – national TV.

Getting ready for the show was a grueling process.

"Thousands of late nights, early mornings, working out all throughout the day," said Josh. "Training, getting right, so we can do these obstacles."

"When you get to the show, everything is completely different than your own gym. Much higher and scarier and brighter," said Hannah Auer, Caleb's wife and fellow ninja. "You can only do so much to prepare."

American Ninja Warrior puts competitors through a series of obstacle courses. It’s a sport that involves lots of running, swinging, and jumping.

Getting the call to appear on the show is an experience the Auer family won’t forget.

These "Ninjas of the Auer" said while the sport looks downright intimidating -

"It’s a process just like any other sport or instrument," said Caleb. "The more you practice the better you get."

The family's gym, Rock Solid Warrior, has facilities in Apex and Fuquay Varina.
