Although the Labor Day weekend marks the unofficial end of summer, hot weather will remain in the forecast, according to WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel.

Temperatures on Friday climbed into the 90s and the evening will bring a chance for thunderstorms that will stay largely south of Raleigh.

The chance to see rain will decrease with each subsequent day of the holiday weekend, Fishel said. Saturday brings a chance for scattered thunderstorms while only a few isolated showers and storms are possible Sunday. By Monday, Fishel said there is virtually no chance for rain.

"The trend is for things to keep getting dryer every day and that should mesh pretty well with any recreational plans outdoors," Fishel said. "We think there's a really good chance we will get through Labor Day without seeing any shower and thunderstorm activity."

Following what will be a three-day weekend for many, temperatures will remain consistently hot and dry, with forecast high temperatures in the 90s through the week.
