Hoke County schools to provide free breakfast, lunch meals to all students for 2019-20 school year

All Hoke County students will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2019-20 school year as part of their United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) federally-funded program, Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), according to their website.

RAEFORD, N.C. — All Hoke County students will receive free breakfast and lunch during the 2019-20 school year as part of their United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) federally-funded program, Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), according to their website.

A spokesperson for Hoke County schools said in a written statement that they are participating in the program because "students cannot learn if they are hungry."

"We are proud to offer our students the nutrition they need to succeed," the spokesperson continued. "While adhering to the guidelines set forth by the USDA, a variety of nutritious, delicious meals are offered to students each day for breakfast and lunch."

The schools that will participate in the CEP program are: Don Steed Elementary School, Hawk Eye Elementary School, JW McLauchlin Elementary School, Rockfish Hoke Elementary School, Sandy Grove Elementary School, Scurlock Elementary School, West Hoke Elementary School, Upchurch Elementary School, East Hoke Middle School, Sandy Grove Middle School, West Hoke Middle School, Hoke High School, Turlington School and SandHoke Early College High School.

“Students must be healthy to learn, and they must learn to be healthy,” the statement concluded.
