SHANNON, N.C. — An official with a Hoke County church has been charged with sexual battery and taking indecent liberties with two juveniles, authorities said Wednesday.

Vinson Henderson, 43, of 16 Les Norman Road in Shannon, was arrested on Monday at his home. He is superintendent of Mt. Elim Baptist Church in Red Springs, where he oversees the youth program.

The Hoke County Sheriff's Office said someone came forward on Nov. 30 after revealing to her school guidance counselor that she had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with Henderson for about two years.

A sheriff's office investigation revealed another juvenile who allegedly had an inappropriate encounter with Henderson.

Henderson was being held under a $100,000 bond in the Hoke County Detention Center on Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing.
