An arsonist set fire to a Hoke County church last Friday, authorities said.

<b>RAEFORD, N.C.</b> — An arsonist set fire to a Hoke County church last Friday, authorities said.

The fire damaged The Prayer Tabernacle Holy Church of God, at 6670 Calloway Road, south of Aberdeen.

Investigators said they found evidence that an unidentified material was used to speed the spread of the fire. The fire started in the church sanctuary, authorities said.

There was no word on a possible motive or any suspects.

The case was being investigated by the Hoke County Sheriff's Office, the State Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms & Explosives and the FBI.
