History museum presents family play on life in rural North Carolina
"When I Leave," best for sixth graders and up will be premiered at the N.C. Museum of History on Oct. 5.
Posted — UpdatedThe N.C. Museum of History will host the premiere of a new play about life in rural North Carolina in 1957 on Oct. 5.
"When I Leave," by Raleigh author Ella Joyce "EJ" Stewart, is based on a true story about 17-year-old TJ, the son of a farming family and Stewart's late brother, as he grapples with the injustices of segregation in his small town.
The play will debut at 7 p.m., Oct. 5, at the museum in downtown Raleigh. Tickets are $8 and free for ages 12 and under. Museum staff tell me that the play is best for sixth graders and up. It definitely sounds like a way to spend a thought provoking evening with your tween or teen.
