RALEIGH, N.C. — A million-dollar home in north Raleigh sold for 20% over asking price Friday after only being on the open market for three days.

The home on 3424 Bellevue Road, with its elegant architecture, has a unique story. According to the home's seller, it was one of the first homes in north Raleigh in the late 30s. The home was built with a view of rolling plains.

It's hard to imagine such a view from that location now. Eventually, the builder  sold the custom-built home as nearby construction began to suffocate him, according to real estate agent Susan Bashford.

Bashford said that through the years, the property has "kept the character of the old home. That's why it commanded such a high price."

The 5-bedroom, 7,000-square-foot home was listed for $3.5 million, and the sellers got $4.2 million for it.

Tax records do not reveal who purchased the home. Instead of a name for the buyer, Wake County tax information says the home was purchased by, "Bellevue Raleigh LLC." Bashford said that the buyer, who wanted to maintain privacy, was local to the area.

Bashford said it's believed that the road, Bellevue Avenue, was named by the home's original owner, who looked out his window and saw the home's "beautiful view."

This home was listed by Van Fletcher with Allen Tate/Raleigh-Glenwood.
