More than 50 headstones were damaged over the weekend at a Fayetteville cemetery dating to 1785.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — More than 50 headstones were damaged over the weekend in a Fayetteville cemetery dating to 1785.

Police said Monday they received a report about the vandalism at Cross Creek Cemetery 1 on North Cool Spring Street. They are seeking the public's help to identify suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.

The cemetery, police said, is the site of the oldest Confederate monument in North Carolina, which honors both Confederate and Union soldiers buried in unmarked graves near Cross Creek.
