DURHAM, N.C. — Hillside High School in Durham is closed Wednesday for contact tracing after an employee at the school was believed to test positive for COVID-19.

The Durham County Department of Public Health and Durham Public Schools are working to identify staff members who came in close contact with the person and will reach out to them with guidance on if they should be tested or self-isolate.

Students are still learning at home, but some staff members and teachers go to campus to work or teach from their classrooms. All visitors and staff at Durham Public Schools are screened when they enter the building and are required to wear face coverings around others.

According to health officials, close contact is defined as spending 15 minutes or more within six feet of someone.

The COVID-19 case is "probable," not confirmed, Durham Public Schools said.

Due to health and privacy laws, no additional information was available.
