A construction project along Hillsborough Street near downtown Raleigh is nearly $600,000 over budget, officials said Friday.

Road crews are installing several roundabouts between Oberlin Road and Gardner Street to make the road more pedestrian-friendly and to help revitalize the area for business.
Unanticipated work on sewer lines is pushing up the price tag on the already estimated $9 million makeover.
The Raleigh City Council is expected to vote on whether to give the extra money at next week’s meeting.
