HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — The town on Tuesday lifted its voluntary water restrictions, which had been in place since October.

Hillsborough water customers had been asked to reduce water consumption by 10 percent under the voluntary limits.

“We have consistently achieved a 20 percent usage reduction during voluntary restrictions,” Hillsborough Utilities Director Kenny Keel said in a statement.

The limits have been lifted because recent rains have filled Lake Orange and have replenished the West Fork Eno Reservoir to 94.5 percent full. The town's available water supply would last more than a year at the current usage rate, officials said.
