HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — Several people at Lory of Hillsborough apartments were without air conditioning on Friday.

Some residents told WRAL News it’s been that way for more than a month with no timeline for when the repairs will happen.

The apartment complex said the delay has to do with supply chain issues.

They unfortunately can’t find anyone with the parts needed.

The man I spoke with says the heat in his apartment is just unbearable!

Zachary Williamson, his wife and two dogs have been without AC for five weeks now.

“It’s warmer inside sometimes than it is outside,” said Williamson.

And that outside temperature was over 100 degrees Friday.

Contractors have tried recharging and replacing the system with no success, and Williamson said, without any answers from management.

“We last heard from them on Monday and they promised us that someone would be out Tuesday or Wednesday this week to finish the wiring," said Williamson. "It’s Friday now and we still haven’t heard anything from them.”

Williamson is immunocompromised and worries the heat may complicate his health.

He also worries about his dogs when they have to be left home alone.

"It’s still averaging about 80° on the bottom floor," said Williamson. "Sometimes hotter.”

First Communities Management, who own the complex, told WRAL News the AC parts are expected to arrive next week and they’re prepared to make repairs right away.

They also said they were willing to adjust rent to those affected.

Williamson understands the ongoing staffing shortages and supply chain issues, but it’s hard to be patient when it feels like your apartment is melting.

“We’re paying our rent on time. We’re doing everything we’re supposed to do and it’s the hottest part of the Summer," said Williamson. "It’s not the time to be messing with people’s health and well-being.”

Residents without AC were given portable AC units as a temporary measure.

Williamson has one in his bedroom, but he said the rest of the house is averaging about 90 degrees.

And the heat this weekend is showing no signs of letting up.
