The class of 2021 at a High Point high school got a sendoff they'll never forget. 

it was all right, most of the all over the place because you know the previous year, they didn't get a full graduation, graduating senior McKay Mcrae was in the audience when Principal Marcus cause took the stage for his closing remarks, I really had to step outside of my comfort zone. And so Principal Gods stepped to the mic and delivered. I principal God says he's sung at other graduation events, but when the senior class's valedictorian asked for this song, he was hesitant. Nobody follows Dolly Parton and nobody sings behind Whitney Houston. Like are you serious right now? Like can we not find something else? And even his students weren't quite sure he had it in him, you know, in the part where it gets to, you know, I will always look like when it gets to that part, I was like he's not gonna take it there and then he took it that was like, well he really did it. Yeah, we'll always laughing. Wait. Yeah, like this is very natural of him. Like this is the type of principal he is so I don't want people to think like he just did this now. This is Mr Guard and since the scene has gone viral, God says he's received messages of love from people around the world. It has just been amazing and humbling, but it's also been exciting to know that there's something that little old me can do that could give somebody some hope to keep to keep going and keep pressing forward.

The High Point Police Department provided an update on a shooting and standoff situation that occurred late Thursday night and early Friday morning. 

the officers at this point, they're they're doing well, uh, everyone is okay. Thankfully, that it's non life threatening injuries. Any contact with suspects? He's still in the home? Yes. Uh, so probably the easiest thing to do. I'll just start from the top. Just work away down around 11. 15, 1 of our officers was on routine patrol last night on West English. Ended up hearing, um, some shots that were being fired in the areas of what he did. He circulated the area and ended up, was able to determine it was coming from 29 12 West English Road. There was a gentleman that was sitting on the front porch, so the officer approached him on foot. Hey, ended up retreating back into the home at several officers by this time ended up, was on their way to the scene, and at some point, the gentleman brandished a rifle to the officers, so they retreated back to a, uh, safer location in a safer distance. And so what we're dealing with now, at this point is a armed, barricaded subject. So our tactical team ended up being activated. Uh, they responded to the scene, ended up having the home surrounded. And at some point this morning, uh, in the early hours, uh, the gentleman ended up, uh, started to fire the rifle and struck three of our officers. So what happens then? We have when that's relayed over the radio. Now we have Greensboro police Department. That's coming in to assist. We've got Guilford County sheriff's office. Uh, that have responded. So we have our negotiators there. Negotiators, uh, their command post our command post eso we're all working together. Uh, eso We've got officers that's been here now for several hours, They We're trying to rotate them out with some fresh people that's coming in. We've got some officers not even supposed to be at work that's here today. That's just how we do things here at the High Point Police Department. So what our ultimate goal is is to negotiate with this gentleman to get him to peacefully come out of the home and surrender. Uh, and really, he dictates the situation from here. Up until around five o'clock this morning, he was still firing shots from inside of the home. I don't know if it's still wall or how the door window, whatever it Waas, but it's still firing shots on there. They're still attempting Thio negotiate with him. Uh, to get him to peacefully come out of the home is the ultimate goal. So do you know who this is for? Like someone who depart? I don't know that. It's not a name that's known to me on We're not releasing it at this time. All that release? No, it's just It's the resident of the home. No family members, right? Uh, his father has been reached out to who does not live in this state. Forest 31. Yes, they have surged. We still correct. Uh, he's either in surgery, had surgery or going to a some point. But the good thing is, it's nonlife threatening are peacefully correct. Yes. Hang. Hello. This is every situation is different. He really dictates the situation from this point. You know, if shots are not being fired, the level of the threat does begin to diminish. However, it's there because we know that he is still armed. Uh, we don't know how many rounds he has. We don't know anything about that, but we're talking about a rifle. We're not talking about a handgun, so uh, when you have shots that are being fired with a heavily populated area, residential and industrial area together, uh, it's not velocity that's gonna stop the bullet. Uh, it's gonna be it's gonna strike something. So we still have that threat there. And that's what we're trying to do is to get him to come out peacefully. Surrender? Think? Yeah, as's faras adding people coming in from, uh, Thomasville into the city of High Point on national Highway, which turns in the West English if you would just avoid this area. Really from the 3000 block of West English, all the way to market center is closed down. And then people coming from Thomas or high point into Thomas feel from market center on English. Don't come this way. Please find an alternate route, uh, for your travels for this morning
