WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Looking for a place to cool off that isn't too crowded? We found a hidden gem for kayakers and paddle boarders in Wake Forest.

The Wake Forest Reservoir is located off of Wait Avenue adjacent to the Traditions at Wake Forest subdivision. It has a small concrete boat launch that is great for canoes, kayaks and paddle boards. Fishing is also permitted there.

The first time we went there, we completely missed our turn and ended up in the Traditions subdivision. So, if you start to see houses, turn around! The reservoir is a nice size, so you can socially distance and relax on the water. We saw several turtles, ducks and birds while canoeing one afternoon.

And if you want to go for a walk, there is a soft trail located on the western side of the reservoir.

Get more information on the reservoir and its trails on the Town of Wake Forest website.
