Henderson, N.C. — Henderson police are searching for a suspect in the slaying of a man shot on Monday, a year after he was charged in the beating of a motorist.
LaMichael Grant, 22, of 317 Pearl St., is wanted on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Avon Fouch, 29, of 277 Faulkner St.
Officers said they found Fouch unresponsive in the 100 block of West Rockspring Street around 6:30 p.m. Monday. He died of a gunshot wound at Maria Parham Medical Center.
Police said Grant should be considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Henderson police at 252-438-4141, 911 in Vance County or Crime Stoppers at 252-492-1925. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for anonymous tips that solve crimes.
Police didn't release more details about Fouch's death but said it was unrelated to his arrest in the March 19, 2011, assault of Eric Loznicka.
The incident began when Loznicka accidentally hit a man who ran out into Raleigh Road, according to the Vance County Sheriff's Office. Eight people, including Fouch, were accused of grabbing Loznicka from his car and beating him.
Fouch was charged with misdemeanor assault but had not been convicted of it, according to state Department of Correction records.
