One in six kids has a developmental disability. One in five teenagers has a mental health condition, while one in five adults will experience mental illness this year. These statistics drive Easterseals UCP’s (ESUCP) purpose to provide meaningful and exceptional services so that children, adults, and families living with disabilities and mental health challenges can live, learn, work and play in their communities.

ESUCP’s service model and commitment is rooted in a belief that individuals living with disabilities and mental illness can be engaged, contributing members of their family and the community if they have the right support. In addition, Easterseals UCP believes their commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Authenticity, and Learning is a competitive advantage. In fact, these are their drivers for becoming an IDEAL organization. “Becoming an IDEAL organization is a bigger-than-we-are vision and a cause worth striving for. It’s important to the success of our team members, those we support and the communities that count on us,” says Luanne Welch, President & CEO.

The challenges people living with disabilities, mental illness, and addictions face every day are real. ESUCP leverages their experience, expertise and life-changing programs to directly address the uphill battles. On any given day, the ESUCP team may serve as a direct service provider, caregiver, nurse, nurse practitioner, therapist, social worker, job counselor, teacher, psychiatrist and compassionate friend all rolled into one. Their diverse and inclusive 2,600-member team provides more than 10.2 million hours of meaningful support to 40,200 kids, adults and families in 11,000 home, facility and community locations across North Carolina and Virginia.

An investment in Easterseals UCP is an investment in the overall health and well-being of the local, rural and urban communities they support. Recognizing the value Easterseals UCP provides, Whitley Law Firm is a proud supporter of the organization. "Supporting organizations like Easterseals UCP in our community ensures our funding helps a really diverse group of folks. Our partnership helps resources go farther and impacts our community in a meaningful way," said Ben Whitley of his firm’s support.
