RALEIGH, N.C. — Thursday is the last day you can vote for the Wake County Animal Center in the "Spoil Shelter Pets Challenge."
According to the Shelter Challenge website, nine shelters and rescue groups will win prize packs containing bowls, treats, collars, flea treatments, crates and more.

One grand prize winner will receive $10,000 worth of supplies, and the eight runners-up will receive prize packs valued at $5,000 each.

"This is a chance for our shelter to win Shelter Challenge grants that fund shelter, food, and care for our animals while they wait to be adopted into furrever homes," the Wake County Animal Center posted online. "Every vote counts."

The Shelter Challenge has gifted 50 million to charities around the world to date, according to its website.

The donations are generated by GreaterGood.org, a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the health and well-being of people, pets and the planet.

October is Adopt a Shelter Pet Month and Pit Bull Awareness Month, and the Wake County shelter has reduced the adoption fees of pits and pit mixes to $25.
The shelter is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh. A gallery of adoptable animals is available online.
