Help kids! Join me as we raise money, collect food for Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's BackPack Buddies program

Raleigh, N.C. — I'm so excited to have the chance to help out this year during the MIX 101.5/WRAL’s BackPack Buddies Mediathon on Wednesday!
I'll be hanging out with Sarah King from Mix 101.5's Two Men and the Mom from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the Food Lion on Lake Boone Trail. King, along with her on-air partners and others from WRAL, will be collecting food and donations for this critical community program that ensures kids don't go hungry on the weekend when they don't have access to free or reduced priced meals at school.
Right now, 1 in 5 children in North Carolina are at risk of hunger. Nearly 500,000 children are going hungry across the state. Through the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle's BackPack Buddies program, kids take home a backpack worth of food so they have something to eat during the weekend.
On Wednesday, King will split off from her on-air partners, Kyle Smelser and Bryan Lord, to lead her Team Mom. Last year, the mediathon raised nearly $200,000 and collected 10,000 pounds of food!
How can you help?
On Wednesday, you can drop off money and food from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., at 2420 Wycliff Rd., Raleigh. Find us at the Food Lion in the Lake Boone Shopping Center at the corner of Lake Boone Trail and Wycliff Road. (If you stop by from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, be sure to come by and see me and Sarah!)
We'll be collecting healthier food items, including packaged noodles, instant oatmeal, canned fruits or vegetables, and 100 percent juice boxes. You can find a list online of what to bring and what not to bring.
If you can't make it out on Wednesday, you also can donate online. The BackPack Buddies mediathon page has all of the details.
Hope to see you there!
