Hefty haul of jewelry stolen from elderly woman's car

A 77-year-old Benson woman told the Johnston County Sheriff's Office that about $245,000 in jewelery was taken from the trunk of her parked car.

BENSON, N.C. — Authorities are working to track down $245,000 in jewelery that was stolen from an elderly Benson woman last week

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, which was reported Dec. 20.

The 77-year-old victim told deputies that seven valuables – including a $100,000 watch, a $100,000 bracelet, a $25,000 Rolex and $20,000 earrings – were taken from the trunk of her car, which was parked outside her home.

The woman discovered the theft Dec. 11 but delayed reporting it.
