WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Heat might have caused part of a bridge to buckle on Capital Boulevard, authorities said Monday.
The buckled joint left a trench a few inches deep, about half the width of the bridge.

Authorities temporarily closed the southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard in Wake Forest, but the lanes had reopened to traffic by Tuesday morning.

The state Department of Transportation plans to investigate the problem.
