TARBORO, N.C. — The parents of a 13-year-old boy who police say died when he was tied to a tree for two nights won't next appear in court until later this year.

The Daily Southerner of Tarboro reports a probable cause hearing scheduled for Wednesday in Edgecombe County was rescheduled for Aug. 7 for 36-year-old Sandra McMillan and Dec. 27 for 41-year-old Brice McMillan.

The are both charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony child abuse.

Authorities said their teenage son Tyler was found June 12 unresponsive and tied to a tree at the family's farm in the Macclesfield community.

He later was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities have said he was tied to the tree as a punishment for disobedience.
