FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A car plowed over almost two dozen grave markers at a local cemetery over the weekend, authorities said.

Officials at Rockfish Memorial Park said a man caused up to $20,000 in damage by tearing through the cemetery in his car Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses told police the car broke down, and the man fled on foot. The car was towed, but there was no word Tuesday on the identity of the driver or a possible motive for the vandalism.
