FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The family of a 46-year-old Lee County man is struggling to make sense of his death.

Mark Morris was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run on Oct. 28 that happened at the Carlson Bay apartment complex at 3500 Carlson Bay Court in Fayetteville.

Investigators said Sukara Wiggs, 18, was driving the gold Nissan Altima that hit and killed Morris.

Authorities arrested Wiggs on Monday. She is charged with felony hit and run. Wiggs is out after posting $20,000 bail.

On Wednesday, WRAL News spoke with Morris’ wife and son. They are heartbroken and seeking justice.

"I keep expecting him to come home, and he's not going to come home,” Jennifer Morris said of her late husband. “[Wiggs] took that from me.

“She took everything from me."

Mark Morris was a private contractor. He was at the complex to check on repairs. WRAL News learned that some of Morris’ family members watched in horror as the car slammed into him.

"[She] never let off the gas,” Jennifer Morris said. “Never stopped. Never anything like that and just hit him and continued to squeal her tires outside of the apartment complex.”

Wesley Morris maintains Wiggs saw his father.

“She had every opportunity to stop that car, but she didn't,” Wesley Morris said. “She had every opportunity to turn herself in. She had every opportunity to turn around and help him."

Police said they found the car hidden in the backyard of the home that belongs to Wiggs' mother.

Over the weekend, the family held a candlelight vigil. Now, they're sharing pictures and memories of a life taken too soon, a man they say was loved by his family and community.

"[He] never met a stranger,” Jennifer Morris said. “His family grew with every person that he met, really. and I just... I want more justice for him.”

Police said it is an ongoing investigation. Authorities are trying to determine whether to file additional charges because of the way the car was hidden.
