Have questions about Wake magnet schools? Get answers at this weekend's magnet fair

If you live in Wake County and are considering your children's school options for next year, you should mark this Saturday's Wake County Public School System's annual Magnet, Early College and Year-Round Fair on your calendar.

If you live in Wake County and are considering your children's school options for next year, you should mark this Saturday's Wake County Public School System's annual Magnet, Early College and Year-Round Fair on your calendar.

At the fair, teachers, administrators and even parents will be on hand to share more about individual schools and why they might be appealing to your family. It runs 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 26, at Panther Creek High School, 6770 McCrimmon Parkway, in Cary. (That's a new location for those who have been before. It usually is held at Southeast Raleigh High School.)

The event is the perfect time to learn more about the schools and ask questions about the application process.

Once you've learned more about the schools your family can attend, you also can sign up for tours of the individual schools (which I also highly recommend as a parent who has gone through this process). Wake school system's website has links to school schedules and sign ups.

The school system also is offering magnet information sessions this fall and early winter including magnet elementary school mini-fairs and magnet middle school information sessions.

The magnet and year-round application period begins earlier this year - on Oct. 26 - and ends Jan. 30. Families will be notified on Feb. 19. The application period for Early College schools opened Oct. 12 and runs through Dec. 16. More information about the application process is also on Wake's website.
