The term brassiere was first used in the early 1900’s. By the 1930’s bras began enhancing a women’s natural curves while offering support. But by the 1960’s women were burning their bras.

Bras are capable of bringing out strong emotions in people – women can feel confident and supported with the right bra; yet with the wrong bra, they can be cranky and downright irritable, not to mention self-conscious, and men find the slightest glimpse of the frilly underthings to be a tease. With all its connotations, there’s one thing that’s certain. Finding a good bra that fits well can make all the difference in your appearance.

For all the bra-wearing we do, it turns out that most of us are wearing the wrong sized bra. The average American woman wore a size 34B fifteen years ago. Now, it's a 36C. Why? Americans are simply getting bigger, for one. But also, it's because more women are being fitted for a bra and finding out their true size.

A woman’s breasts change up to six times during their lives, and most change every five years or so. Weight loss, weight gain, pregnancy and nursing can all impact the size of your bustline. Having regular bra fittings can make sure you’re wearing the correct size bra every step of the way.

But why bother? you might ask. For one, the right bra will lift “the girls” and hold them at the perfect height. This alone can help us look slimmer and trimmer. It can also improve our posture and help our clothing to fit us better. There are plenty of stores offering complimentary bra fittings that take just a few minutes and can make a big difference in your purchase. Soma by Chico’s, J. Alane’s, the Bra Patch, Belk and Nordstrom are a just a few that offer this free service that can help you get the perfect fit, as well as the right bra for your lifestyle.

With so many options to choose from, there’s a bra for every need – running, nursing, sleeping, etc. Making sure you take the time to get the right bra for you, that fits you to a tee, will make you look like a million bucks!
