Have a blast at Guy Fawkes Night

The Oxford is hosting its third annual Guy Fawkes Night this Saturday: celebrate like our friends across the pond by commemorating Guy Fawkes' failed attempt to blow up the House of Lords.

The name Guy Fawkes might not be so well-known in America, but that doesn't mean we can't join the fun. The English typically celebrate the failure of the Gunpowder Plot, Fawkes' attempt to blow up the British Parliament, in early November with bonfires and fireworks.

The Oxford is bringing us a taste of this English party with their third annual Guy Fawkes Night this Saturday. The event is free and open to the public, and there will be live music, plenty of food and drink, games, fire performers and a unique fire-shooting statue. Baguettaboutit food truck will also be there for the fun.

VIP tickets are available, which grant you access to the VIP tent with free beer, wine and food, a goodie bag and spots near the stage. These tickets can be purchased online and are $50.

The Oxford is also partnering up with Raleigh City Farm for the event. Guy Fawkes masks and sparklers will be on sale all night, and the proceeds go to the farm to support their urban agriculture efforts.

The 300 block of Fayetteville Street will close at 5 p.m. Saturday night, and the music starts at 6 p.m.
