HOLLYWOOD, CALIF. — Harrison Ford's first crack at television in years could lead him to playing the role of Michael Peterson, the man who was convicted of murdering his wife in 2001.

Variety and other entertainment outlets are reporting Ford would play Peterson and be an executive producer on a TV series. The TV show would adapt "The Staircase," a documentary series released in 2004 and updated in a docu-series in 2018 for Netflix.

Peterson said his wife died after she accidently fell down the stairs of their Durham home. Peterson was convicted of murdering her in 2003. He was granted a new trial in 2017 and entered an Alford plea to manslaughter.

Peterson was later freed based on time served from his 2003 conviction.

Ford is famous for films such as the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" series. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "Witness" in 1985.
