Starting Tuesday, April 21, Harris Teeter will require associates to wear masks or other face coverings at work including employees at their stores, distribution centers and facilities.
The announcement was made on April 20. Harris Teeter will provide all associates with a face covering and associates have the option to use their own.
"This decision aligns with CDC guidelines and promotes the safety and well-being of our shoppers and our valued Harris Teeter Heroes who are working on the frontlines to ensure our communities have access to food, medicine and essentials during this unprecedented time," said Danna Robinson, communication manager for Harris Teeter. "Additionally, it brings consistency across our stores and further demonstrates Harris Teeter's commitment to protect our people and our communities, which is something we and our shoppers care about deeply."
In addition, shoppers are encouraged to cover their faces, but it is not required (except in areas mandating face masks or covers). The Harris Teeter announcement also indicates that "it is important to note that face coverings are an added health precaution; masks and/or face coverings do not guarantee against the spread of COVID-19."
