HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Halloween decorations dot the neighborhood in the Highgrove Community in Harnett County, with inflatable that are popular and easy to put up.

But they're not scary enough for Ann Highland.

"Hanging things from the house is as scary as you can get," she said.

Highland has been decorating her home with elaborate figures in her front yard for years.

She says the decorations reflect her love for the TV series "The Walking Dead."

But the figures she has swinging from trees are raising eyebrows of some of her neighbors who say they remind them of a lynching.

But not all of Highland's neighbors see it that way.

"She does a beautiful job," said neighbor Missy Chatier. "I don't think she intentionally meant to upset anybody, but all it takes is that one person blowing it out of proportion and everybody likes to jump in."

Several neighbors expressed concern about her decorations to WRAL News, but they didn't want to comment publicly about it.

They say Highland normally has Confederate flags in her yard but believe she took them down because of coverage from WRAL News.

Highland says there’s nothing racists about her decorations

"It's Halloween," she said. "There's nothing (related to) lynching about it. It's just good, clean fun."
