LILLINGTON, N.C. — The Harnett County Sheriff’s Office is looking into an apparent scam that has victimized at least two people.

Investigators said two women reported a man coming to their homes wearing a uniform resembling that of the emergency medical services.

According to reports, the man demands payment for an overdue ambulance bill. One of the victims paid the suspect more than $1,000. Neither victim was injured.

Sheriff Larry Rollins warned that the county EMS does not collect service bills in person and cautioned anyone who received a suspicious visit to report it to authorities.
