Harnett County teen seriously injured in crash

Lillington, N.C. — A Harnett County teenager was seriously injured in two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon.
The wreck happened at about 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Barbecue Church Road and N.C. Highway 27 in Lillington.
The state Highway Patrol said driver Donald Ray Thomas Jr. ran a stop sign and his Dodge pickup truck crashed into a Hyundai driven by Shaina Kaye Merritt.
Merritt, 18, of Cameron, suffered minor injuries. Trooper said her passenger Henrietta Humes, 18, of Cameron, was transported to Cape Fear Hospital in Wilmington with serious injuries.
Thomas Jr., 33, of Moncure, and his passenger, Heather Begroat, were transported to Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford for treatment of minor injuries.
Western Harnett High School had held its graduation ceremony a few hours before the crash. It was not yet known whether the teens had attended the nearby event before the wreck.
Charges are pending in the crash, troopers said.
