Harnett County high school teacher faces up to 100 charges, authorities say he had sex with students
A Harnett County high school teacher was charged Wednesday afternoon with sexual activity and indecent liberties with students.
Posted — UpdatedDenny Dalton was a teacher at Triton High School in Erwin at the time of the reported offenses. According to court documents at least five of the victims range in age from 13 to 16 years old.
When approached by school officials after they learned about the allegation, Dalton resigned immediately.
School officials contacted the Harnett County Sheriff's Office about the allegations.
An investigation revealed that multiple students reported several offenses during regular school hours.
Dalton faces charges including 44 counts of sexual activity with a student and 47 counts of indecent liberties with a student.
He received a $970,000 secured bond and remains in the Harnett County Detention Center.
The district said Dalton was a swim coach and an assistant soccer coach.
Mike Adams, a parent with a child at Triton High School, told WRAL News he’s hurt and frustrated by the allegations.
"It is scary," Adams said. "It makes me want to pull my kid out and say home school ... [or a] different school."
