Hardee’s And Carl’s Jr. Are Selling A Chicken Sandwich On A Waffle Bun
If it seems like nearly ever fast-food chain added a new chicken sandwich to their menu in the last few years, you’re right. Thanks to the Chicken Sandwich Wars, if you’re a fan of chicken sandwiches, you’ve had a ton of choices lately.
And it might not be over just yet, because two restaurant chains are once again offering new sandwiches. The latest? Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., which have three new hand-breaded chicken sandwiches, including one served on a biscuit and another with a waffle bun!
Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s say their new hand-breaded chicken sandwiches start with a 100% white meat breast filet that is marinated in 13 signature seasonings and dipped in buttermilk. The chicken then goes through a six-step hand-breading process in Southern-style flour and is then cooked until golden brown.
The hand-breaded chicken sandwich is served on a toasted potato bun with crisp deli pickles and mayonnaise for around $5.99, depending on location. The hand-breaded chicken biscuit is $3.99 and serves the hand-breaded chicken on a Hardee’s made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuit.
A new take on the classic chicken and waffles dish, the chicken and waffle sandwich features the hand-breaded chicken topped with a maple butter glaze and served between two Belgian waffle buns. It’s meant to be a breakfast sandwich but it’s served whenever you have a craving, the chain says — so you can get it anytime. While the price varies by location, it is around $4.49.
The new suite of sandwiches are already available in restaurants, and they’re all served all day. While the hand-breaded chicken sandwich and the hand-breaded chicken and waffle breakfast sandwich are available at both Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., the hand-breaded chicken biscuit is only at Hardee’s.
Previous contenders in the Chicken Sandwich Wars included Popeye’s, which launched a fried chicken sandwich that sold out almost immediately, and KFC, which tested a fried chicken sandwich with glazed doughnuts as the bread.
Most recently, McDonald’s added three new crispy chicken sandwiches to their menu, and sandwich shop Jimmy John’s joined in earlier this year with a new Smokin’ Kickin’ Chicken Sandwich. The limited-time-sandwich was on the menu through March and include seasoned chicken, creole chili pepper sauce, Jimmy peppers, provolone cheese, avocado, onions, lettuce, oil, vinegar and mayo.

Which new chicken sandwich from Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. will you be trying first?
